Vertical CNC Machining

Here at Vista Industrial Products, Inc., we have expanded our machine shop to meet the needs of our customers. We have a large variety of different machines with different functionality. For today’s blog, we will discuss our vertical machining centers. At VIP, we have more vertical machining centers than horizontal and turning / lathe machining centers. Most of our vertical machining centers are computer numerical controlled for better precision and efficiency. We have a total of 10 vertical machining centers including one that is large capacity for large machined parts. Nine of our machines are 3-axis, while one of our machines is a 4-axis.

Spot Welding vs. TIG/MIG Welding

Resistance spot welding is a cost effective way to join two or more overlapping pieces of metal together. In addition, spot welding is a huge time savor compared to TIG or MIG welding. Many engineers come to VIP for advice to save time and money on sheet metal assemblies that require welding. One great method that we regularly recommend (depending on the assembly and function of the parts) spot welding as an alternative. Below shows a comparison between spot welding and welding (TIG or MIG).

Factors Resistance Spot Welding TIG / MIG Welding
Requires fixtures Yes Yes
Welding time Short Long
Requires grinding after welding No Yes
Requires skill and experience No Yes
Number of supplies needed
Minimal Several
Size of weld Small Varies
Material distortion Minimal to none Minimal to Extreme

CNC Machine Shop

Vista Industrial Products, Inc. has a 5,354 square foot in-house machine shop with a wide range of machining equipment with a variety of functions. We have been able to maintain growth within our machine shop largely due to the fact that many companies are not going overseas for their machined parts. Since CNC machining is not labor intensive like sheet metal parts, it wouldn’t be beneficial to take it overseas where the labor costs are cheap.  As a result, we have a large collection of machines that range from 3 and 4 axis with part capacity up to 81”x41”x32,” CNC 3D surfacing, manual mills, CNC lathes, manual lathes, and not to mention a complete quality assurance department with a CMM. Metal Finishing

The metal fabrication industry has become more diverse with more manufacturers taking on more services to increase their capabilities and add more opportunities to their workflow. For instance many years ago, metal fabricators would either only do sheet metal fabrication, only machining, only welding, or only metal finishing. Now that the industry is more competitive, companies are taking on all different capabilities in order to remain competitive in the industry. Vista Industrial Products, Inc. has taken part in this metal fabrication trend. As the company has grown and partnered with multiple companies in different industries, we have diversified our services in order to create a one-top-shop for metal fabrication. As a result, we provide metal fabrication and metal finishing under one roof!
